EXHIBITION THEME
Our shared human history includes a violent and shameful component — that of deliberate attempts to eradicate specific populations due to differences of culture, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression and race. Often motivated by those in power, collective trauma and tragedy are part of our past and present.
This exhibition asks artists to consider the Holocaust and other Global Genocides as inspiration for their work. Presented in collaboration with the Raritan Valley Community College Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, the exhibition will educate viewers about the perils of anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, sexism and inequity. Our challenge is to remember and learn from the history of The Holocaust and other Global Genocides and to amplify our shared humanity. Preserving our humanity is at the center of all diversity, equity, and inclusion work, invoking the core of our experiences.

Excerpts from the presented work
All materials used are based on the processing of natural fibers. When choosing them, I pay attention to quality and beauty.
I like to use silk because of its natural sheen. Their colors are particularly brilliant. At the same time, silk fabrics should not hang in direct sunlight, as the fibers, which consist of up to 80% protein, are sensitive to UV radiation.
For cotton, I prefer batiks from the Asian region. The variety of patterns and colors always impresses me, while with linen I often choose relatively heavy fabrics with an interesting texture.
If I need wool fabrics or fibers for a design, I always fall back on fine merino or alpaca wool. Hand-spun wool has a special charm.
Textiles are more sensitive than other materials; they need our special attention. Textiles should not be displayed in direct sunlight. They should be protected from dust, other contaminants such as: Soot, flies and moths.
